This is going to sound like a silly question, but I will ask it anyway. :)

How do you effect the background, and not the subject? Do you outline the background and just effect that area or is there an easier way?

I hope you didn't mention this up above because I'll just feel silly! Hehe.

You do so much beautiful photography<3 I love your photo stories.

I use masks, it's written in the tutorial. This is a basic feature of Photoshop that you need to learn.
